Labbuddy

This post is also available in: Nederlands (Dutch)

Labbuddy ensures that students enter a practicum prepared, supports the acquisition of academic skills and helps students stay focused.

In preparation for the practicum, LabBuddy provides:
– An experiment designer in which students can build a flowchart of the experiment before it is actually conducted in the lab
– Interactions at each step in the flowchart to help them understand (parts of the) experiment
– Customized feedback at each step and on the flowchart as a whole

During the practicum, the student follows the protocol of the previously designed experiment in Labbuddy. Here the necessary information about the theory and/or procedures is offered at the moment the student actually has to do something with it. Because of this “just-in-time” information, the student’s cognitive capacity is not overtaxed and more thinking capacity is left for what the student came to the lab room for: meeting the learning objectives of the practicum.
There is also the option of keeping a comprehensive lab journal. In the lab journal, a student can write comments and conclusions directly, or add graphs from Excel, for example. At the end of the experiment, the student can export the lab journal to Word and submit it to the instructor.
